The Veriforce Basic Pipeline Orientation is a comprehensive one-day safety program designed for individuals working in the pipeline sector. This orientation provides the essential general safety information workers need before entering a company worksite or performing their assigned duties.
Students will learn to identify hazards commonly encountered in the pipeline industry, become familiar with practices to mitigate those hazards, and gain a clear understanding of their rights under OSHA. This course is a crucial step in creating a safer work environment.

Course Components & Learning Objectives
This course is structured to build a foundational understanding of pipeline safety culture and practices.
1. Safety Culture
* Discuss how human performance, behavior-based safety, and the IOGP Life-Saving Rules impact safety culture.
* Explain how to incorporate the IOGP Life-Saving Rules into everyday tasks.
2. General Safety
* Describe general safety and company-specific requirements.
* Explain how effective communication contributes to worker safety.
3. Hazard Control
* Describe engineering and administrative controls used to limit worker exposure to hazards.
* Explain worker and company responsibilities regarding Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and identify common PPE types.
* Understand the proper protocol for the rare instances when bypassing safety controls is necessary.
4. The Hazard Communication Standard (HazCom)
* Explain the purpose of the HazCom Standard.
* Describe the function of product warning labels, pictograms, signal words, and hazard statements.
* Demonstrate how to properly use a Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
5. Environmental Awareness
* Identify different types of waste and describe methods to minimize waste at the jobsite.
* Explain the purpose of the Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Standard.
6. Industrial Hygiene
* Identify the major routes by which hazardous materials can enter the body.
* Describe common chemical and biological hazards and the measures used to control exposure.
Certification & Verification
Upon successful completion of the course and passing all exams, students receive a Veriforce ID card. This card reflects all Veriforce course requirements the student has met. Employers can verify student training credentials at any time on the official Veriforce verification website.
