MEWP (Aerial Lift) Operator Training
ANSI & OSHA Compliant Certification
Course Overview
Safe operation at height is critical. This course provides operators with the essential knowledge and hands-on skills to safely operate Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs), commonly known as aerial lifts. Our training is structured to meet and exceed the latest industry and federal safety standards, including ANSI A92.24 and relevant OSHA regulations.
Offered nationwide, this program combines classroom theory with practical, hands-on evaluation. To earn their certification, students must demonstrate their knowledge by passing a written examination with a score of 80% or better and successfully completing a practical evaluation to demonstrate their ability to safely operate the equipment.
Who Should Attend?
This certification program is designed for any person who operates or intends to operate any type of aerial lift. It is suitable for everyone from the new hire to the experienced supervisor who needs to be certified on MEWP equipment.
Prerequisite: All participants must be at least 18 years of age.
Comprehensive Curriculum
Only trained and authorized persons are allowed to operate an aerial lift. Our training ensures your operators are fully qualified by covering all essential topics:
Hazard Identification: In-depth explanations of electrical, fall, and falling object hazards.
Risk Mitigation: Procedures for dealing with and protecting against identified hazards.
Safe Operation: Correct operation of the lift, including understanding maximum intended load, load capacity, and stability.
Pre-Use Inspections: A detailed review of when and how to perform a thorough pre-use inspection.
Recognizing Unsafe Conditions: How to assess the work area and avoid unsafe conditions.
Manufacturer's Requirements: A review of the specific requirements and operating characteristics of the equipment.
Understanding MEWP Classifications
Our training covers the modern ANSI classifications to ensure operators understand the specific equipment they are using:
Group A: MEWPs where the platform moves vertically but stays within the machine's tipping lines (e.g., Scissor Lifts).
Group B: MEWPs with a boom, where the work platform can extend beyond the chassis (e.g., Articulating and Telescopic Boom Lifts).
Types of MEWPs:
Type 1: Can only be driven in the stowed position.
Type 2: Can be driven while elevated, but is controlled from the chassis.
Type 3: Can be driven while elevated, controlled from the work platform.
Retraining Requirements
To ensure continued safety and compliance, retraining is required if:
An accident occurs during MEWP use.
Workplace hazards involving the MEWP are discovered.
An operator is assigned to a significantly different type of MEWP.
An operator is observed operating the lift in an unsafe manner.
