OSHA 10-Hour Construction Industry Training
This training program is intended to provide entry-level construction workers with crucial information about their rights, their employer's responsibilities, and how to file a complaint. The training covers a variety of construction safety and health hazards that a worker may encounter on a construction site. The program emphasizes practical hazard identification, avoidance, control, and prevention, rather than a deep dive into specific OSHA standards.
The total instructional time must be a minimum of 10 hours.
Course Curriculum: A Breakdown of the 10 Hours
The 10-hour program is structured with mandatory, elective, and optional modules to ensure all participants receive essential safety knowledge.
Mandatory Training Topics (6 Hours)
Six hours of the course are dedicated to fundamental safety topics and the most severe hazards in construction.
Introduction to OSHA (1 Hour)
This module covers workers' rights, employer responsibilities, and the process for filing a complaint. It includes helpful worker safety and health resources and provides samples of a weekly fatality and catastrophe report, a Safety Data Sheet (SDS), and the OSHA Log of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses (OSHA Form 300). Materials include an Instructor Guide, student handouts, and participatory activities.OSHA "Focus Four" Hazards (4 Hours)
This critical section addresses the four leading causes of fatalities in the construction industry.Falls: (minimum of 1 hour and 30 minutes)

Struck-By: (e.g., falling objects, trucks, cranes) (minimum of 30 minutes)
Caught-In or Between: (e.g., trench hazards, equipment) (minimum of 30 minutes)
Learning Objectives for "Focus Four" Hazards:
Upon completion of this module, students will be able to recognize fall, caught-in or between, struck-by, and electrocution hazards. Specifically, for each of the Focus Four, the student will be able to:Identify major hazards.
Describe different types of hazards.
Understand how to protect themselves from these hazards.
Recognize employer requirements to protect workers from these hazards.
Personal Protective and Lifesaving Equipment (30 minutes)
Health Hazards in Construction (30 minutes)
This segment may cover topics such as noise, hazard communication (HazCom), crystalline silica, or any other relevant construction health hazard.
Elective Topics (2 Hours)
A minimum of two hours must be dedicated to elective topics. At least two of the following subjects must be presented, with each topic lasting for a minimum of 30 minutes.

Materials Handling, Storage, Use, and Disposal
Scaffolds
Stairways and Ladders
Tools - Hand and Power
Optional Topics (2 Hours)
The remaining two hours can be used to teach other construction industry hazards, cover company-specific policies, or expand on any of the mandatory or elective topics. The minimum length for any topic is 30 minutes. You can also choose relevant topics from the 29 CFR 1910 General Industry standards, such as:
Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
