OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Training
This 30-hour training program is intended for workers with some safety responsibility. It provides comprehensive training on a variety of essential topics to enhance workplace safety. The course curriculum emphasizes practical hazard identification, avoidance, control, and prevention, rather than a focus on memorizing OSHA standards. A minimum of 30 hours of instructional time is required.
Course Curriculum: A Breakdown of the 30 Hours
The 30-hour program is composed of mandatory, elective, and optional modules, providing a deep and flexible learning experience.
Mandatory Training Topics (14 Hours)
A total of 14 hours are dedicated to the fundamental principles and most critical hazards within the construction industry.
Introduction to OSHA (1 Hour)
Covers workers' rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint. It includes helpful worker safety and health resources and provides samples of a weekly fatality and catastrophe report, a Safety Data Sheet (SDS), and the OSHA Log of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses (OSHA Form 300).
Managing Safety and Health (2 Hours)
May include topics such as Injury and Illness Prevention Programs, job site inspections, accident prevention programs, management commitment and employee involvement, worksite analysis, hazard prevention and control, accident investigations, conducting safety meetings, and supervisory communication.
OSHA "Focus Four" Hazards (6 Hours)
This section addresses the leading causes of fatalities in the construction industry.
Falls: (minimum of 1 hour and 30 minutes)
Electrocution: (minimum of 30 minutes)
Struck-By: (e.g., falling objects, trucks, cranes) (minimum of 30 minutes)
Caught-In or Between: (e.g., trench hazards, equipment) (minimum of 30 minutes)
Personal Protective and Lifesaving Equipment (2 Hours)
Health Hazards in Construction (2 Hours)
May cover topics like noise exposure, hazard communication, and crystalline silica, or any other relevant construction health hazard.
Stairways and Ladders (1 Hour)
Elective Topics (12 Hours)
You must receive at least 12 hours of training from the list below. At least six different topics must be presented, with a minimum duration of 30 minutes for any single topic.

Cranes, Derricks, Hoists, Elevators, and Conveyors
Ergonomics

Fire Protection and Prevention
Foundations for Safety Leadership (requires a minimum of 2.5 hours)

Optional Topics (4 Hours)
The remaining four hours can be used to teach other construction industry hazards, cover company-specific policies, or expand upon any of the mandatory or elective topics. The minimum length for any topic is 30 minutes. This allows for customization, and you can also choose relevant topics from the 1910 General Industry standards, such as:
